The world that the writer depicts in his story is scary, but it is also the same place where cops like Balzano and Byrne are badly needed. The cops are tough, but also tender at the same time and their investigation methods complement each other. Though Byrne shows some self - destructive behaviour in the story, he still manages to get the bad guys. While Balzano is tender and tough at the same time, Byrne is an extremely effective cop. The result is a thriller with a strong storyline, vivid characters and numerous twists and turns.
