Havildar Bachittar singh was in 2nd Battalion, The Sikh Regiment. He fought in the Second World War also. After Independence,in order to improve the Law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh in September 1948,Hyderabad Police action had taken place in which Havildar Bachittar Singh unsurpassed valour, grim determination, devotion to duty and leadership earned him Ashok Chakra(Posthumously). He was the first person to receive the coveted gallantry award in 1950.
